Offering Home, Birth Center and Hospital Support.
Every birthing journey is a transformative act of spirit to be honored. Through an inherent trust in the process, respect for each woman, and a holistic approach to care, I am grateful to provide prospective mothers, fathers, and partners with unconditional support, compassion and knowledge. I am eternally thankful for the sacred opportunity to witness grace and strength emerge in families.
My passion for women's physical and mental health stems from personal struggles and victories thus far. Throughout my early adult life, my body battled with ovarian cysts, endometriosis, a diagnosis that I would be unable to have children, and all of the accompanying emotional challenges. As a result, I had convinced myself that I didn't want to become a mother. When my accidental gift, LB, was conceived, I felt confused and alone and spent the early months of my pregnancy solemn and sick. I knew nothing of pregnancy and childbirth beyond what mainstream media promotes ...pain, trauma, illness and so forth. Serendipitously, I attended a local event with another mama-to-be and was introduced to the Central Oregon birthing community. Inspired, I decided to take charge of the remainder of my pregnancy by seeking the skills, support and guidance of these exceptional women. And a wonderful thing happened...I started to relax and enjoy the ride. By embracing my body and the philosophy that birth is powerful, normal and natural, I began to enjoy my experience and to see myself as strong and capable. I furthered my education by taking childbirth classes, including Hypnobabies, by becoming a member of La Leche League, DONA International, COBN (Central Oregon Birth Network) and DAMA (Doula Association of the Mountain Area). I became spiritually connected to and drew energy from all of the women who came before me, my ancestral "sisters" and their ancient rituals. I read and listened to every positive, empowering birth story I could find and began to think "These women are amazing! I am amazing!" I developed relationships and friendships with beautiful and progressive kindred spirits and, as a result, had a wonderfully transformative, out of hospital, water birth in January of 2009. I decided, almost immediately after the birth of my daughter, to leave my former career in favor of continuing a journey into birth work and am blessed to have become a professional member of that community. To be able to provide prospective mothers, fathers, and partners with the same invaluable compassion and knowledge I received is truly fulfilling. I trust birth and serve families with respect for this sacred, natural, normal and healthy experience and advocate that every family deserves a doula. If you feel that I would not meet your specific desires or needs, it will be my pleasure to assist you in finding another doula sister.
I relocated to Asheville, NC from Bend, Oregon in September, 2010 and am thrilled to have become immersed as a doula in this vibrant and eclectic community. I also offer placenta services and pre/postnatal yoga. I am a member of DAMA and serve as a lead for a group working to establish Western North Carolina's first birth center. Additionally, I founded a community support group for Cesarean families which has transitioned to a local ICAN chapter.
If you are located in Central Oregon and are in need of a birth or postpartum doula, please do not hesitate to contact me; I will gladly connect you with the family of professional birth workers in your area.
“Whatever way birth happens, it is your rite of passage into motherhood, and that passage is to be celebrated. Natural childbirth is a passage, cesarean birth is a passage, and birth with an epidural is a passage to be celebrated. That passage cannot be taken away from you. Every mother’s birth experience is valid, and an act of courage.” --Ananda Lowe
